DIY PROJECT: The Ang Bao Box

In almost every other part of the world (other than asia), you have registries. From what I understand of it, you go to a shop you like and note down the things in the shop you want to have and this becomes your registry list.

Guest have to choice of which item on the list they would like to get for you and they purchase it for you.

In Singapore, it’s slightly different. We don’t have registries, we have ang baos aka red packets with money inside. You would expect anywhere from $80 – $150 in each packet per person coming to the wedding, and they will drop the angs baos in the ang bao box.

Miss Krafty E

Or how about this adorable one from Miss Krafty E?

Michelle kindly asked me if I wanted her angbao box, a simple, slightly shimmery gold ang bao box. From the moment she whatsapped the pic to me, I knew it was another chance for me to DIY!

Simple enough right? Next I brought out my handy-dandy doilies. O what would I do without them!

Glue them on with white glue and let it dry! Tadah!
Maybe it looks plain but i think it’s so pretty. Maybe I’ll place pin-rolled roses on the top, I haven’t decided.

Best of all, this cost me nothing! Well other than the bunch of doilies I bought as a pack, the box was free and the glue is not added in the calculation. 🙂

Maybe add our names in the middle too, but that’s to bee decided later on I suppose. 🙂

Any comments?

DIY Heart Boutonniere

For a wonderfully easy tutorial, check out’s tutorial!

So after an attempt at making these hearts, I still haven’t decided on whether or not I am going to use them as the boutonnieres for my groom and families It’s simple, easy to make, cheap and sweet, but I wonder if it’s too simple? 😦

Any comments/suggestions out there for a budget bride here? 🙂

1 A4 felt piece makes about 6 boutonnieres.
1 A4 felt piece also cost $1  🙂

I think they’re perfect for a budget fuss free wedding I’m envisioning; but i’m still not sure. maybe in time to come I may find a better tutorial, or I may stick to this. 🙂

DIY Project: DIY boutonnieres

I’ve been scanning about the blog-o-sphere for cool/simple ideas for boutonnieres and I’ve caught sight of heart shaped ones that I’m in love with.

I like the idea of the groom wearing his heart on his lapel. heh. cheesy no?

From handheartandhome

Is this not the funkiest idea? Tattoo hearts for brooches or boutonnieres.

From Purlbee has an awesome tutorial on felt hearts. And she makes it look so easy.. So I decided to give it a shot! Afterall, spotlight only sells them at $1 per A4 piece!

Stay tuned to see the result!!!

The Wedding Dress: Lace

Ok, my first post on what could be the most important aspect of the entire wedding. My wedding dress. 🙂

This dress, I’ve planned/designed/imagined for most of my life. It’s quite set what I want, although I do tell everyone else that I have no idea. I don’t want to look like I’m some psycho bridezilla.

It’s gonna be (are you ready..?) an…All Lace Mermaid gown. A Classic piece.

Okay, I haven’t decided on the neckline, either V-neck or off shoulder.

Jim Hjelm have the most sublim lace pieces..

‘Scarlet’ – monique lhuillier

Monique Lhuillier too.. She has the best, in my humble opinion, lace dresses in the entire industry. It would be a dream worth having to walk in one of her dresses.. without the huge price tag of course.

Time to lose weight to get into a slinky mermaid dress, and start shopping for good boutiques that can make my dream come true..

Bridesmaids: 1,2 and 3.

I’ve chosen 3 girls to be my chosen bridesmaids. 2 are my closest friends and 1 my younger sister. BFF 1 is my Maid-of honour. 🙂 No one else deserved a place up there, these ladies have been with me for at least 10 years, of course the sis being my sibling being 19 years.

Working with a budget: I’ve set aside a budget of $350 for all their needs/attire and have also delegated the task of designing, sourcing and making the dress to BFF 1. Which I feel is important to do. Sometimes even the most accomplished in event planning can’t do everything on her own. 😉

We’ve discussed about it (believe it or not) at least 20 times, (and I’ve only been engaged 6 months!). She made some suggestions on what was they should wear, how it would fit the whole lace/doily theme, and I gave her my thoughts. Here’s some of our favourites:

Elizabeth Anne Designs

Calypso’s Lacey BM dresses – so chic!

Oh, the prettiness and vintage-chicness of Alfred Sung.

And for a wallet friendly choice.. ASOS has the glamour and prettiness all rolled up in this sequinned bodice chiffon dress. Plus, all 3 dresses added up stay within my budget!

Bridal Musing

This blogger’s wedding had such a lovely colour theme. Love the light blushy pink on the bridemaids.

Rosa Clara

And in a perfect dream sequence, we would all look like this. Perfect.

I like – Same theme through all dress, like the colour or the design.

I dislike – Completely matchy matchy. No clones at my wedding, my girls have to look fabulous in their own way too..

But Singapore is pretty hot country, so we’re trying to stay away from the long gowns, opting for midi dress. Long way to go.. and lots of work to be done. Will check back with BFF on the progress soon enough.

Did I mention she’s all the way in Australia?? …

365 days more.

And the count down begins! Exactly 1 year more.
three.hundred.sixty.five.365 days to go – I’m part excited, part terrified, part anxious, part slightly sad and part calm at this moment.
La Mariee Wedding House is having a sale at the end of this month! Signed myself up for the earliest slot and got my focus on to find myself an evening dress! Up to 50% of and dresses are selling for their retal prices.
TIP: Bridal houses are always getting rid of their old items to make way for the new ones. Budget brides who don’t mind a pre-worn or last seasons dress can find AWESOME deals here.. Be patient and wait for the sales.
All I need now is to appoint a bridesmaid to follow me!
Little cute banner I made with our initials to hover over the little wodden cake toppers. 🙂
1. I took a cardboard sheet and traced the shape of the banner on it.
2. Using a pen knife, I carved the shape out.
3. Painted it with water/acrylic colour and designed it as I wanted to.
4. I stuck satay sticks at the sides so they could be stuck into the cake. 🙂
All this.. for free.. 🙂
