Hello again!

Hi everyone.. *crickets chirping*

Ok so maybe no one comes around here anymore but I’ve been missing some creative action and I decided to start documenting (again..) the process of my new house!

Kinda like a graduation of sorts, wedding then house, who knows sooner or later I’ll start a mommy blog. THAT is another story for another time.. For now, I’m starting on my 1 year journey to interior design heaven. (Or hell depending on my fickle brain.) I’ll be holding on to the same principles I designed my wedding with – Cheap/Good/DIY/Meaningful ¬†so if you are a Singapore new wife waiting patiently for your BTO (Built to Order) Flat to get ready, you could tag along and share your ideas or home decor with me too!

Come join me? ūüôā myhomeonadime.wordpress.com

DIY Photo frame Sign (thingy..)

This is super simple, it shouldn’t even be a DIY project. But anyhoo..

Cost: $2 only!
(Photo frame from Daiso where everything is $2, Pink scrap paper was lying in my scrap box and foam words were what was left I had in my sponge letters set.)

IMG_3030

I wanted something to encourage people to write for my hanging doily guestbook so this idea only came to me when I was strolling down the aisles of Daiso and saw this super lovely photoframe! Look how expensive the border looks ūüôā

I created this little message based on whatever sponge foams I had left.

IMG_3031

Stuck them onto the glass of the photoframe – NOT behind, as I wanted that 3D pop up effect.

IMG_3033

Used nice pink paper behind and ta-dah!

IMG_3032

Only 3 more months before me and M take the walk down the aisle, say our vows and promise to live together forever. I can’t help but feel nervous, butterflies fluttering everywhere in my tummy. I keep imagining how the whole day will happen.. What will be my favourite moment? How will I feel after the whole day is over? I can only dream now.. ūüôā

Wedding Nails

I called Silhouette asking if we could come down soon for a fitting but turns out my next fitting is in May. Which is weird. Cos I remember very clearly we agreed on February. Reason being, she said, we want to alter as close to the actualy date as possible so the fitting will be accurate. Oh well. Can’t see the dress for the next 3 months then.

I’ve been scanning pinterest for nail designs I love recently. As well as wondering which nail salon I should head over to. There are a few favourites I have now but I still don’t know where is worth my money. I want to keep things quitee simple, no bejeweled nails for me. I can’t stand the feeling of having things on my finger nails.

Bejeweled-nail1

I’m thinking french manicure with a slight twist. I’m not too certain what that slight twist might be now… Maybe a little bit of glitter, or a lacey design or a flower stiker?

So which one to choose?? They all look so beautiful.

I’ve been looking into holding my pampering manicure session with my BMs at these places:

1. Thumblina Nails @ Bukit Timah
2. Pink Parlour @ several locations
3. Nails Cottage @ punggol
4. Juup Nails @ Several Locations
 5. Envy Nail Lounge @ Peck Seah
6. My Cozy Room @ Cairnhill

Any others you recommend?  Let me know.. Thanks!

Review: Silhouette Atelier

First of all can I just say, I never ever intended to go with a full fledged bridal house. To me, they were expensive and too limited in their gown choices. I wanted something specific and timeless, something that only came to reality in my head. So I searched for places where I could make my¬†bespoke¬†gown but try as I might, I didn’t have a gown moment similar to one I had when I bought my evening dress at La-Mariee. (which is also a wedding dress!!)

I made an appointment with SA (Silhouette Atelier) on a¬†whim¬†to fill up my appointment schedule when BFF was down, we weren’t expecting what would happen next. We stepped into their relatively new home in Emerald Hill, Somerset. It was a beautiful¬†shop house¬†lit by vintage lamps you could only find in old shops in malacca. The top floors had chandeliers. My heart melted.

Point one – I went to the appointment on the wrong date. Instead of¬†Wednesday¬† I came on tuesday. I’m not sure how this communication breakdown happened but¬†nevertheless¬† Rebecca, my designer (every brides gets attached to one!) was readily available to let me try on the dresses. I told her what I wanted and she pulled out all the dresses available late into the night, till about 8pm.

Point two – Their dresses are what my wedding dreams are made of. Even those huge fluffy tulle ball gowns were so beautiful it might have changed my mind about my¬†lacy¬†ones. They are pieces of art on hangers, so well made and so¬†delicately¬†thought out. Even better, the variety was amazing. I didn’t believe the 3 full rooms of gowns I saw!

Point three – I think I tried a total of 7 dresses there, all very pretty and very me! But one¬†definitely¬†got me and I had a dress moment with that one. I couldn’t think of any other dress. I had to have that one.

Point four РThe price was definitely not a positive aspect of SA. They cost above average on the range so it took me a while before I decided to go with them. They are ex, but like I said to a random SG comment, it depends on what you want. My full lace gown cost $800 more than a normal one.

My first fitting was a few weeks back, and I dont want to put up pictures until the wedding cos I’m afraid M might peek into the blog. I don’t want him to see it! But I am very happy with it. ūüôā It still needs lots of work and alterations but I think its gonna be beautiful.. !

Yesterday January the 1st was our one year¬†engagement¬†anniversary, ūüôā One year ago, on that exact date, M asked me to marry him. And I said yes. There were many moments throughout the day when I was staring at my ring. I’ve been wearing this baby for one year already? Wow. Here’s to many more years of saying yes to one another..

On to more exciting news…

My Church Wedding (Part II)

I’m lucky enough to be in a choir since I was 12 so I’ve always been immersed with music and song. We, as a choir, have also been asked to sing for other people weddings as a service to them so I’ve become very¬†familiar¬†with wedding songs! After a few months of listening and remembering.. the bolded, underlined ones are the ones we chose, the rest are other options that you may like if you are choosing your wedding songs:

Entrace Hymn:            This is the day / Majesty / Joyful Joyful
Offertory Hymn: ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† Table of Plenty / All man’s labour / Blessed are you Lord
Communion Hymn:   No Greater Love / Speak Love / The Galilee Song
Thanksgiving Hymn: I Love you Lord / I thank you Lord

There usually is no recessional hymns for weddings, the ceremony ends after the bride and groom sign the certificate and walk out in procession!

Above and beyond the mass songs, I have not decided on my walk-in, signing or walk out song… ūüė¶

Another part of the mass we have to decide on is the readings and the Gospel readings.. These links have helped me know what my options are and even the meaning of the passage that I have picked!

1st Reading
2nd Reading
Responsorial Psalm
Gospel

I think I know which I want to pick…

do you have any favourite readings? Let me know!

My Church Wedding

Since M and I are both¬†Catholics¬† it’s important for us to hold the ceremony in our Church, The Church of Our Lady of Pepertual Succour, which has been our parish for our whole lives and was also the place we met. We are both from a Choir so thankfully, music will not be a problem!

Our celebrant will be our current Parish Priest, Father Gregoire Van Giang.

Last Saturday we confirmed our slot for the 15th of June by paying a non-refundable deposit of $200 (for the church hall) + $200 (for the reception area) = $400 in total. All proceeds are in donation to the church. This confirmation usually has to be done 6 months in advance.

Mass timings are available at¬†9am / 12pm / 2pm . We chose 12pm but wanted it slightly earlier to allow for more time to relax in the afternoon, but we are only allowed to shift up if there are no weddings before us. I asked the church¬†secretary¬†and this is how the conversation went…

Me: Is there anyone in the 9 o’clock slot?
Her: Not yet..
Me: We were kinda hoping to shift the wedding a little earlier.. like 11 o’clock?
Her: That one you have to check 3 months before then we can confirm the timing.
Me: But I thought we have to confirm 6 months before??
Her: Yeah, but there’s always ’emergency weddings’ …
Me: *with one eyebrow raised* Ah.. Ok.. So I’ll call back in March to confirm?
Her: Yup!

Looks like I can’t print the invites till March/April then. ūüė¶

So now I need to :
1) prepare wedding booklets (templates anyone?)
2) prepare mass order on the powerpoint slides (templates anyone??)
3) choose mass songs
4) choose 1st, 2nd reading & Gospel readings

Let the priest vet 2 months before and print wedding booklets! OH MY.. suddenly the rush of things to do is giving me headache. Happy Headache though, love planning my own wedding..

Wedding Caterers

So I’m hitting the 6 month mark soon and a lot things need to fall within the 6 months marker.. one of which is deciding and contacting the caterers for the¬†church¬†reception.

Now I’m not too particular about food.. I know many couple who are and who have paid for an indulgent feast from places like Purple Sage, Neo’s Garden and Rasel. While I have nothing against people who love to savour the finer stuff, I prefer spending my money else where. Food isn’t too big a concern for us. I don’t need the fancy food, as long as my guests are not kept hungry after the ceremony is enough for me. M’s stand on this is exactly like mine.

I think sometimes people want to spend a lot because of pressure from parents and friends weddings, to give their guests a really good time. It’s easy to spend too much so I believe that while his or my parents may want a really big spread, I’m opting for¬†simpler¬†food. -In other words, ¬†ITS OK TO GO CHEAP!

So I headed to foodline.sg (love this place because they offer CASHBACK omg!) and just went for the most simplest / cheapest / fuss free set I could find. Here’s a narrowed down list, some have minimum number of people but since mine is 200 for church, I definitely surpassed it:

I’m gonna ask M what he think and start looking into reviews for these few places before making my choice.

Any of you tried these places before? Any recommendations?

Wedding Progress

Countdown: 234 days to go

Planning has slowed down a little. Most projects I’ve gotten started with are finished are stored neatly and safely in my wedding cupboard. Yes I have a wedding cupboard.

Doing things myself sure isn’t as fun but I don’t have a choice, M’s busy and not too great with the crafts so I’d rather him not touch them. Mum is busy working and BFF is still down under, so most things are done by myself.

Tip to other brides: Don’t do things by yourself. You can easily get tired and unmotivated. Grab your girls if you can and if not, do as much as you can for as long as you can like me! Then rest and call for help.

I’m using Google Doc’s Wedding Checklist to help me sort everything out. I love the document! it helps me plan my budget, keep track of my guests and best of all I can access it from anywhere since its uploaded on the google drive.

Next on the checklist: Booking of Caterers and Florist.

I think I’m gonna do research on the caterer I want. Full break down, and I’ll share my findings with you.

As for my Florist, my package is linked to 86 Creation Florist; anyone used them before? I think I’ll wait till¬†December¬†when BFF is back to visit her.

DIY Project: Guest book Ideas

I’ve seen quite a few ideas for guest books .. Polariods or Instacs, scrapbook pages, Classic books, photo albums.

But I can’t afford instacs, I have no time to scrap book (besides thats quite expensive too) and classic books are just too boring for me. So I’m thinking of a more interactive approach – a clothesline hanging guest book!

My evening location would probably have perfectly space poles that are supporting the tent and with some string, pegs (bought! 16 pegs for $1) and paper or in my case, doilies, I have my hanging guestbook! I’m counting on my BMs and other friends to help with the installations of this guest book..

Now I’m just deciding if I should have a table to solely explain the whole concept or just put it with the reception table. And should I have a seating chart shown or should I have ushers to them the table numbers..??

Decisions decisions..

Let me know your ideas, thanks!
