DIY Photo frame Sign (thingy..)

This is super simple, it shouldn’t even be a DIY project. But anyhoo..

Cost: $2 only!
(Photo frame from Daiso where everything is $2, Pink scrap paper was lying in my scrap box and foam words were what was left I had in my sponge letters set.)

IMG_3030

I wanted something to encourage people to write for my hanging doily guestbook so this idea only came to me when I was strolling down the aisles of Daiso and saw this super lovely photoframe! Look how expensive the border looks ūüôā

I created this little message based on whatever sponge foams I had left.

IMG_3031

Stuck them onto the glass of the photoframe – NOT behind, as I wanted that 3D pop up effect.

IMG_3033

Used nice pink paper behind and ta-dah!

IMG_3032

Only 3 more months before me and M take the walk down the aisle, say our vows and promise to live together forever. I can’t help but feel nervous, butterflies fluttering everywhere in my tummy. I keep imagining how the whole day will happen.. What will be my favourite moment? How will I feel after the whole day is over? I can only dream now.. ūüôā

Wedding Nails

I called Silhouette asking if we could come down soon for a fitting but turns out my next fitting is in May. Which is weird. Cos I remember very clearly we agreed on February. Reason being, she said, we want to alter as close to the actualy date as possible so the fitting will be accurate. Oh well. Can’t see the dress for the next 3 months then.

I’ve been scanning pinterest for nail designs I love recently. As well as wondering which nail salon I should head over to. There are a few favourites I have now but I still don’t know where is worth my money. I want to keep things quitee simple, no bejeweled nails for me. I can’t stand the feeling of having things on my finger nails.

Bejeweled-nail1

I’m thinking french manicure with a slight twist. I’m not too certain what that slight twist might be now… Maybe a little bit of glitter, or a lacey design or a flower stiker?

So which one to choose?? They all look so beautiful.

I’ve been looking into holding my pampering manicure session with my BMs at these places:

1. Thumblina Nails @ Bukit Timah
2. Pink Parlour @ several locations
3. Nails Cottage @ punggol
4. Juup Nails @ Several Locations
 5. Envy Nail Lounge @ Peck Seah
6. My Cozy Room @ Cairnhill

Any others you recommend?  Let me know.. Thanks!

Wedding Hair Inspiration

I have decided. I am going to get someone to do my hair for me, while I do my own make-up.

I have a practise run with myself last week when the BMs and I went for our Groupon photoshoot with Lumiere Photography. Feedback was the eyes need to be a little heavier and more blusher to show in photos. I will do one more test run before going for my next dress fitting to see the whole effect. As for my hair, my hair stylist (whom I will introduce at a later date) agreed to do my hair for trial and actual day and night for $240.

For the style, I’m really loving the soft pompadour look. I’ve been trying to grow my fringe longer to have a side swept fringe look, but the more I look at the pompadour look, the more I love it. It looks so much more.. royal! Check out the pictures below which I collected from the TV, the net and instagram.

wedding hair

Don’t they look so grand? No side swept fringe, just this grand looking poof at the front ad a curly chignon at the back. ¬†I shall go with this look but maybe I’ll consult my hair stylist first. ¬†ūüôā

Wedding Photobooth!

Spotted: A wonderful opportunity for all budget brides!

Groupon.sg has a promo on right now for a mobile photobooth at SGD$288 for 2 hours or $388 for 3 hours for unlimited shots and unlimited prints. Company’s name is Phooth (photo & booth, get it?)

I’m still contemplating on getting this service. I’m not even sure if I have enough space in the evening to accommodate them, but couldn’t keep this a secret from all of you! Make use of this deal, I don’t think these come by Groupon very often!

Market rate is about $750 for 3 hours by the way. this is quite a good deal ūüôā

Review: Silhouette Atelier

First of all can I just say, I never ever intended to go with a full fledged bridal house. To me, they were expensive and too limited in their gown choices. I wanted something specific and timeless, something that only came to reality in my head. So I searched for places where I could make my¬†bespoke¬†gown but try as I might, I didn’t have a gown moment similar to one I had when I bought my evening dress at La-Mariee. (which is also a wedding dress!!)

I made an appointment with SA (Silhouette Atelier) on a¬†whim¬†to fill up my appointment schedule when BFF was down, we weren’t expecting what would happen next. We stepped into their relatively new home in Emerald Hill, Somerset. It was a beautiful¬†shop house¬†lit by vintage lamps you could only find in old shops in malacca. The top floors had chandeliers. My heart melted.

Point one – I went to the appointment on the wrong date. Instead of¬†Wednesday¬† I came on tuesday. I’m not sure how this communication breakdown happened but¬†nevertheless¬† Rebecca, my designer (every brides gets attached to one!) was readily available to let me try on the dresses. I told her what I wanted and she pulled out all the dresses available late into the night, till about 8pm.

Point two – Their dresses are what my wedding dreams are made of. Even those huge fluffy tulle ball gowns were so beautiful it might have changed my mind about my¬†lacy¬†ones. They are pieces of art on hangers, so well made and so¬†delicately¬†thought out. Even better, the variety was amazing. I didn’t believe the 3 full rooms of gowns I saw!

Point three – I think I tried a total of 7 dresses there, all very pretty and very me! But one¬†definitely¬†got me and I had a dress moment with that one. I couldn’t think of any other dress. I had to have that one.

Point four РThe price was definitely not a positive aspect of SA. They cost above average on the range so it took me a while before I decided to go with them. They are ex, but like I said to a random SG comment, it depends on what you want. My full lace gown cost $800 more than a normal one.

My first fitting was a few weeks back, and I dont want to put up pictures until the wedding cos I’m afraid M might peek into the blog. I don’t want him to see it! But I am very happy with it. ūüôā It still needs lots of work and alterations but I think its gonna be beautiful.. !

My Florist: 86 Creation

The last 3 days have been an absolute whirlwind. BFF finally flew down, M went for his fitting, I went for mine, we went to get our florist settled and went to 2 site viewings, church and RSYC for BFF to get a rough idea. Will slowly blog about everything.. but for today, some information on 86 Creation.

IMG_2542IMG_2543

Our appointment was at 1pm at the florist located at Depot Heights Shopping Centre. For those who have no clue as to where that is, it’s near bukit merah/henderson. Wasn’t very difficult finding the shop since it’s located on the first floor and the sign is pretty huge.

The shop doesn’t look fantastic I’ll be honest, but I believe its the quality of the flowers that matter! ¬†We spoke with Jennifer whom I made the appointment with, she invited me and BFF to sit down and then proceeded to speak to us about the choices we had. I brought along the iPad to show her my pinterest bouquet page, making it easier for her to get my idea of what I wanted. According to the Silhouette, our flower package was $150 for:

1. Simple Bridal Bouquet
2. 2x Corsages for Groom (but I decided to give one to the Bestman)
3. 4x corsages for parents
4. Bridal Car decor.

The options given for the bridal bouquet with that budget was honestly really ugly. Lots of leaves and flowers I didn’t really like – lillies, small roses. So I opted out of the bridal car decor and used that to upgrade my bouquet. The bridal car decor I could very well do my own or have none at all. Wasn’t very important to me.. What was important was that I had my exact flowers that I wanted.

GroomCorsage_BridesBouquet

I finally settled with this photo as my inspiration!

I told her I wanted:
* as little leaves as possible as I wanted my bouquet to be all blush/ivory and lush.
* stems to show a little at the bottom instead of completely covering it up with ribbon
(Although she tells me that if I don’t ensure the stems are dry, water may drip onto my dress!!!)
* use 3 of my favourite flowers: Peonies, Roses and Eustomas (which is what is in the above picture)
* a round bouquet instead of a flat top.

Peonies were an additional top up of $30 though. They will give 6 blooms plus 1 for my hair. I didn’t mind, I really wanted peonies. ūüôā

Parents_Pink_Eustoma_Corsage

As for corsages, she gave us orchids with red berries for our parents.. but I don’t like orchids and requested for pink eutomas instead. M’s corsage will be like my inspiration picture, large classic ivory rose. Simple and suited for him. ūüôā

So what I’m getting:
1. Ivory/Blush Bouquet – Peonies, Roses, Eustomas
2. 4x Pink Eustomas Corsages
3. 2x White rose corsages

Cost: $150 + $30 = $180

I may not be an expert in this field, but from my basic knowledge of flowers this package is actually still okay, even with the top up! Corsages normally range from $10 – $12.. and a bouquet with peonies can cost from $150 – $200.

Picking up the bouquet will be done the night before the big day – 14th June 2013 at 6pm. .
I’m loving my bouquet already!

Bridal robes Part II

1 more day to the 6 month mark.
3 more days to BFF coming home.
4 more days to M’s fitting..

‚Ķ and 5 more days to mine. My diet didn’t start. ūüė¶

It arrived!!! It took close to 30 days to get to Singapore but my bridal robes which I order on Aliexpress.com finally arrived. Click here to read more about me ordering and finding the most suitable one.

collage1.jpg collage2.jpg

So it came packed in a tiny black package. Inside, the robe was¬†neatly¬†folded and the whole set contained the robe, the (stiff) sash and.. ahem… a g-string.¬†Never mind¬†the g-string, I’m not gonna be using that..

First impressions, I like it a lot. It’s soft and silky, the lace is so beautiful and it fits. There were no stains or funny smells at all. It’s SO COMFY. Best of all, it cost me nothing more than than S$10.50

Only cons I noticed was the lace was really soft so they don’t ‘stand’ nicely on my sleeve. They kinda flop down and hang over. Easy fixing with a little needle and thread. Also it’s a tiny bit transparent, but that’s fine by me, I’ll wear something inside during the morning… I paid S$10.50, I didn’t expect something fit for a queen.

Overall, was it value for money? Absolutely. It looks perfect and I can’t wait to wear it! ūüôā
What do you think??? Lemme know!

Dessert tables

2 more days to the 6 month mark.
4 more days to BFF coming home.
5 more days to M’s fitting..

… and 6 more days to mine. Liquid diet starts tomorrow.¬†

I recently went to a wedding held at church. My choir sometimes get calls to help couples to sing for their masses so I decided to be very active in volunteering in singing for these masses because first and foremost, it’s good karma and also it’s a good way for me to see the whole morning without having to go through a¬†rehearsal¬† (No such thing as a¬†rehearsal¬†mass, by the way.. it’s just a¬†walk-through one week before the big day where you tell people where to stand at what cue.)

It’s a good¬†opportunity¬†for me to take pictures of flower¬†arrangements¬† seating pews and any other special things I notice that will help me in deciding what else I should do for the wedding.

This particular wedding was facinating. It was my first time being up close and personal to the most embellished, colourful, filled-to-the-brim, decked-out dessert table.

collage1.jpg collage2
Yes, it looks even more amazing in real life, trust me. It was massive. Diabetes¬†on a table. A buffet of sugary treats. Heaven to anyone who had a sweet tooth. The more I looked at it, the more I had to have one for our wedding, it was so mesmerizing. I didn’t care about any silly budget I had. It was a once in a lifetime day, I wanted a dessert table! I immediately¬†hijacked¬†a name card and iphone-googled the price on the website: http://www.etasweets.com/

Under the dessert table section I read this, “Our dessert table starts from S$3500 per event, with a minimum guest size of 125.”……¬†OK¬† fine. I can’t bloody afford this. I threw the idea of getting one out my mind-window. ūüė¶ ¬†$3500? I must have been mad. No one eats that much dessert anyway!

So for all who want to splurge on your one big day, these are a list of companies that do dessert tables (not exhaustive):
Artisan Sweets  РMin $3500
Dessert and Palettes  РMin $1000
Celebrate with cake  РMin $900
Little house of dreams – Min $700
Let them eat cake  Р$500 for 30pax~

So I may not get a dessert table as lovely as that but i wonder if we could DIY it? Logistic nightmare? Yeah maybe ūüė¶

DIY Project: Bridal Hangers

I finally made my personalised hangers! Yay.. They’ve been on my to-do list for a very long time so I’m excited to announce that they are finally done.

Materials needed: Hangers / Sticker letters / ribbons
Cost: $2 per hanger x 4  = $8! Hangers were from Diaso!

I got the letters free thanks to Paper Market Voucher given to me by my colleagues, I also had the lace string hanging around my craft cupboard so that too didn’t add to the cost price. That, my friends, is a huuuge feat considering etsy sells them for $20 USD each!

I didn’t want to make them too complicated or have too much embellishments on them. For the foam words, I added some white glue to have extra hold. ¬†Just wanted them cute and personalised. I am super duper happy with the way they turned out and can’t wait for them to show in photos on the actual day!

One more project to add to the whole list of DIYs! ūüôā

Next one should be my DIY cupcake tier but we’ll see how it goes.. At the rate time is passing, I’ll soon have to start printing the invitations already.

Our priest has signed our forms and we’ve confirmed our venue for the morning mass. Phew! So much to do, I wondering how other brides are doing!!

Do you like the hangers and did you DIY you’re own, let me know..

Bridal Robes

Whenever I look at wedding blogs, I always find myself gravitating towards pictures of the bride getting ready. She’s relaxed and glowing with such joy, sitting with her bridemaids, getting her make up and hair done in her white robes.. It’s my favourite part of the day when I look at the photos of the day.

Sources: 1, 2, 3

So I’m gonna try and recreate that gorgeousness myself! I really wanted a bridal robe.. Something white and silk, something very comfy and pretty.. But (of course) something that didn’t break the bank. So I started researching for cheap silk robes that I could bling up on my own! Cotton On Body¬†sells ‘kimono’ robes in pretty japanese prints at $24.95 each. Etsy also sells gorgeous ones ranging from 25 SGD – 45 SGD. Still not cheap enough for me ūüė¶

So I headed to my trusty Aliexpress.com in hopes I could find something cheaper and yet as pretty! Low and behold, I found this baby..

Guess how much it was…

JUST $8.11 USD. Which converts to around SGD$10.50. With Free Shipping. *mini scream*

I feel as if I’ve hit a jackpot. It was perfect in white, with the delicate lace, in comfy silk! Winner!

Will post reviews and pictures when it arrives, so all you bridal babies who want to own your own beautiful robes can do so without paying so much! I’m even thinking of sticking on my own bling saying “Bride” ..

ūüôā Good buy? What do you guys think…?
